Video: The brain & can machines improve humans?

July 3, 2012: The brain’s extraordinary abilities were the subject of a lively interactive panel discussion led by Prof. Idan Segev of the Hebrew University’s Edmond and Lily Safra Center for Brain Sciences (ELSC) at the ‘Facing Tomorrow’ 2012 Israeli Presidential Conference. Panel members were Prof. Shimon Ullman of the Weizmann Institute of Science who specializes in the cooperation between the brain and intelligent machines, Prof. Hagai Bergman of ELSC and the Institute for Medical Research Israel-Canada (IMRIC) in the Faculty of Medicine who spoke on the development of medical therapies for neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s and mental disorders, Prof. Olaf Blanke of the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland who studies body representation in the brain, the self and cognitive neural prostheses and Dr. Amir Amedi of ELSC and IMRIC who has developed ways for those with severe visual impairments and blindness to ‘see’.
